Prefixes

Prefixes are the preceding factor used to represent very small and very large physical quantities in SI units.

Table below shows the prefixes that you need to know in form 1.

Example 1:

Write the values given below in standard form and in prefix form
a. 15000m to km
b. 6,000,000g to kg
Answer:
a.
Standard form
15,000m = 1.5 x 104 m

Prefix form
15,000m = 15km

b.
Standard form
6,000,000g = 6 x 106 g

Prefix form
6,000,000g = 6000kg
